Victor Gavilanes

​Victor “Inuk” Gavilanes, a Newark native, is a dedicated community organizer with over a decade of experience spanning gang prevention, housing, and environmental justice. Currently serving as a Family Resource Specialist with JusticeWorks YouthCare in Luzerne County, PA. Victor provides essential, direct support to disadvantaged residents, empowering families to navigate complex systems and build stability.

​His commitment to systemic change is further reflected in his national advisory work. As a member of the Aspen Institute Financial Security Program’s Community Advisory Group, Victor has been instrumental in helping design a foundation and principles for Person Centered Community of Practice (PCCP), ensuring that financial security initiatives are rooted in the actual needs of the people.

An entrepreneur and artist, Victor also serves as a community voice with Newark Documenters, helping to demystify local government and ensure that public records reflect the truth of the streets. As an Indigenous Taino representative and Shaman practitioner, he integrates cultural mentorship and spiritual guidance into his advocacy, fostering healing and resilience throughout his community.
